A morning routine you can actually keep

By Cielo Manalang

The internet loves a five a.m. morning routine: ice baths, journaling, an hour at the gym before sunrise. Beautiful, maybe, if you live alone and nobody in your house needs breakfast, a packed lunch, or help finding their other shoe.

A routine you can keep has three qualities. It is short, it is flexible, and it does not collapse when the household wakes up early. Ten minutes is enough: a glass of water before your phone, a few quiet minutes with Scripture or your own thoughts, and writing down the one thing that would make today feel won.

Notice what is not on the list: nothing that requires equipment, silence, or the cooperation of toddlers. The routine bends around your life instead of demanding your life bend around it.

Protect the first ten minutes and the rest of the morning can be chaos with no guilt. You already did the part that was yours.
