What to expect at your first meetup

By Elmer Guico

If you have been thinking about visiting a Friday gathering but keep putting it off, this one is for you. Here is exactly what happens, so there are no surprises.

You walk in and someone greets you within the first minute, usually before you find a seat. There is merienda. There is laughter that is louder than you expected. Somebody will ask your name, where you are from, and who invited you, and they will actually listen to the answers.

The program itself is simple: a short welcome, a story or two from members about their week, sometimes a talk about a lesson from the Academy. Nobody will call you to the front. Nobody will hand you a form. You are a guest, and guests are treated like guests.

Come as you are, in the clothes you wore that day. The only thing we ask you to bring is honesty: your real questions, your real doubts. This community was built by people who showed up unsure. You will fit right in.
